Amethis is an independent private equity firm investing in mid-cap companies across “transition countries” in Africa, established by Luc Rigouzzo and Laurent Demey in partnership with Edmond de Rothschild Private Equity. In 2013, Amethis €280m in equity (alongside USD150m debt commitments) and should reach more than €500m AUM in equity by the end of 2018. Job description


Environmental and social (E&S) responsibility ranks high as an operating principle and Amethis recognizes the importance of integrating these considerations into all its business activities. This responsible investment strategy is built upon two pillars:


 An environmental and social management scheme that focuses on E&S risks and opportunities. Portfolio companies must comply with good environmental, social and governance policies: adherence to the principles of good ESG in the widest sense;
 A development impact management scheme. Portfolio companies must comply with Positive Development Impacts as Amethis seeks to combine positive financial and development impacts, systematically measuring and discussing with company management.
ESG and Impact processes are embedded simultaneously in the decision-making process from investment selection to divestment. The manager will be an active participant in each transaction team (at investment) and will support the investment manager for the monitoring of each portfolio company with a direct involvement with the management of each companies to follow-up and improve their ESG action plan.

He will notably:
 verify the company’s compliance with Amethis’ exclusion list, score ESG risks, and identify
management and improvement opportunities;
 perform Due Diligence on material ESG risks with the support of external technical consultants;
 include ESG action plans and other ESG requirements in the legal documentation.

 commits to continuously work with portfolio companies to improve their performance on ESG considerations;
 organizes periodic on-site visits to assess and support companies in the implementation of their ESG strategy and ESAP. He provides advice and support to the portfolio companies on specific items (e.g. fire safety equipment, disinfection procedures, quality standards…), connecting with local/internal experts when required (recruitment, occupational safety and health…).
 includes ESG considerations in pre-exit information packages.

He is also in charge of:
 the review and upgrade of Amethis’ Responsible Investor Policy
 creating awareness in ESG and Impact issues within the Team and
 delivering UNPRI and LP reports on such considerations. In addition he could be involved at EDRPE level to assist other funds in the definition and/or implementation of their own ES strategy.



Your skills and experience / Profil recherché

Skills / Competencies


We are looking for team-minded, hard worker, positive and entrepreneurial people with:
 Interest, understanding and awareness of the key drivers of public policy and corporate strategy applicable to the infrastructure sector and emerging markets growth equity;
 A strong social and technical environmental background, to enable assessment of environmental and social issues against the Funds’ policy requirements;
 Ability to review large quantities of environmental and social information and identify the material issues, including reviewing advisor’s reports;
 Ability to understand the key elements of the investment process and how to influence it through due diligence and negotiation;
 Attention to detail, including the ability to work with legal counsel to identify key requirements;
 Good stakeholder and people management skills to enable interactions across all functions within Amethis, Portfolio company management and EDR PE;
 Demonstrating the ability to deliver results / outputs in a fast-paced environment, to manage competing demands and operate flexibly in a busy, fast moving environment;
 Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English; ability to put complex environmental and social issues into concise terms for non-specialist audiences, including senior managers/ directors;
 Ability to work autonomously;

 

 

Qualifications and Experience:


 Strong environmental and social background and experience, acquired through a reasonable number of years professional work experience
 An environmental and/or social science qualification (BSc, MSc) required
 Proven experience of advising investment / finance clients for due diligence including for application of IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS Guidelines (good international industry practice) and Equator Principles required.
 Existing network of ESG industry contacts is strongly preferred
 Experience of monitoring and tracking project environmental and social performance indicators desirable but not essential.
 In-country experience in emerging markets and/or infrastructure desirable French proficiency is required as well as English (written and spoken).

Location: Luxembourg (preferably) or Paris with extensive travel to country mission.
